You're Not My Customer — Today: A Mindset Shift at the Market

How I Turned a Negative Comment into a Quiet Win at the Artisan Market

As a handmade business owner, I used to let comments about pricing get under my skin — especially when someone would say, “That’s too expensive.” But over time, I’ve learned a powerful mindset shift that changed the game for me.

The Moment That Used to Bother Me…

This past weekend at the farmer/artisan market, two women stopped by my booth. One of them began browsing my handcrafted tote bags, and she was genuinely interested — touching, holding, admiring them. Then came that question:

“How much is this one?”

When she saw the price tag, her response was immediate:
“This is too expensive.”

A few years ago, I would have let that comment ruin my day. I would’ve questioned my value, my pricing, and even my purpose. But not anymore.

My New Response: “You’re Not My Customer — Today”

Instead of taking offense, I smiled and gently told myself:
“You’re not my customer… today.”

It’s not personal. It’s perspective. That small phrase keeps me focused on the people who do value my time, skill, and creativity.

Here’s the twist — that same customer ended up exploring all three of my tables. She touched everything, admired every item, and before she walked away, she said:

“I like everything on your table. Very well made.”

That moment? Pure validation. Not everyone will be your customer — but the right ones will notice your quality and care.

Until Then…

Thanks for reading and supporting my journey. If you’ve ever felt unsure about how others perceive your handmade work — remember this:

You don’t need everyone to say yes.
You just need the right ones to say, “I love it.”
